Setting up project computer network file directory.
Setting up CAD drawings as required, including:
Suggest redesign ideas for improvement of initial sketch plans to client's representative, as appropriate (these were accepted in full).
Attending site to undertake initial site measurements/photographs/visit existing Cardiac Catheter laboratory
Meetings with Design Team (Architects and Engineers) to progress project. Discussions with Structural Engineer and Capita Project Architect to develop and refine construction details, particularly of roofs.
Calculation of volumetric flow rate of rainwater on proposed roof surfaces. Design of drainage methods for the two roofs based on this calculation, on construction detail of previous project and on newly available drainage fittings.
Use and amendment of Equipment Lists based on Activity Database (ADB) room lists, provided by client.
Development of Door, Window, Glazed Screen, Fixtures & Fittings Schedules to enable tender action and quantifying/costing by QS.
Development of Project Specification, using NBS Specification Manager. This was under the guidance of the Project Architect and generally based on the spec of the neighbouring 2002 Cardiac Day Case Unit.
Development from scratch of an Access Statement on behalf of client for planning approval. Reference in particular to requirements of Parts 'M' and 'K' of the Building Regs.

Complete replanning and of Departments in new Main Entrance Building to suit redesign of this flagship area. Departments include Main Reception, Medical Illustration, Social Services, Retail Areas, Patient Liaison Services and Satellite Pharmacy.
Review of 1:50 furniture layouts, amending CAD drawings as part of hospital users' 1:50 Iteration Review Process. Amendment (and creation from scratch) of department Accommodation Schedules, Activity Database (ADB) Schedules as part of the above process. Replanning of SRT Department Main Entrance, with reference to Client's requirements, DDA and automatic door manufacturer's technical documents. Attendance at site meeting in Derby with client and end-users to progress sign-off of 1:50 furniture layout drawing (SRT Dept).
Creation of Project's Briefing Report on Sliding Folding and Sliding Stacking Panel Partitions, referring to Project's design, construction and planning documents, Health Technical Memoranda (HTM's), Health Building Notes (HBN's), Building Regulations Parts B and E, British Standards etc.
Creation of Project Performance Specification for Sliding Folding and Sliding Stacking Panel Partitions, referring to Client's requirements, NBS standard clauses and suppliers' technical documents. Use of NBS Specification Manager.
Liaison by telephone, email and face-to-face meeting with potential subcontractors to obtain further technical details and specific design information on movable wall systems.
Creation from new of Autocad drawings for Package, showing (1) dimensioned locations of the 29 movable walls (2) panel stacking options (3) typical construction/installation details.
Creation from new of MS Excel Schedule listing all movable walls and their specific dimensions, acoustic rating and other requirements etc.
Monitoring of Capita's input into the hospital's Pneumatic Tube System, which extends over 7 floors and more than 80 delivery stations. Liaison with Project's M&E and Structural Engineers, providing information as requested and suggesting areas of redesign.

Participation in CPC's strategy to achieve design excellence i.e. CPC's Best Practice Research Project, with personal involvement in an exploration of deep-plan versus shallow-plan buildings. Comparison of healthcare delivery design methods in USA and UK.
Introductory training in the use of Codebook 7.2, the computer application and database that allows the designer to work with co-ordinated graphical and textual information, producing equipment schedules, themed graphical views, automatic room data sheets and elevations. Attendance at lunchtime CPD seminars. |
